The Alliance RotaryClub has four major
fundraisers annually. They include the Antique Auction, the
Chicken Barbecue, the Vegas Night and the Fly the Flag
Project.
Antique Auction
The Antique Auction, Saturday,
February 25, was a success with 198 bidders. The gross antiques sales
were $21,407, kitchen sales were $503 and the 50/50 drawing netted $160.
The club collects a 20% commission on the sales. Not all of the bills
are in but it is estimated that the net profit will be approximately
$3200. Credit goes to the chairpersons: Andrew Dix, Doug Schwarz, Paula
Wilt, Phil Francis, and to Pat Kaminiski and Bill Willis for organizing
the kitchen.
Chicken Barbecue
The Chicken Barbecue began in
September of 1994. It is held on a Sunday annually in the fall. It runs from
mid-morning to late afternoon.
Vegas Night
The Vegas Night began in May of
1995. It is held on a Saturday evening annually in the spring. It is held
in the evening and last approximately five hours.
This year the
10th Annual Alliance Rotary Club Vegas Night was held Saturday,
May 1,2004 at the Alliance Senior Citizens
Center. Tickets for the event are $6.00 which cover your
food, pop or other beverage (beer is 10 cents per cup).
Activities include Black Jack, Poker, Showdown, a Wheel,
Over/Under dice game, 50/50 drawings plus a Reverse Raffle drawing of
$2000.
Proceeds help our Area Youth and Exchange Students as well
as the YMCA Day Camp and the Robertson Youth Center. Tickets can
be purchased at the Alliance YMCA, Don Pancho's Tex-Mex Cafe and
Robertson Heating Supply Company.
Fly the
Flag
Project
The Fly the Flag
Project
began in May of 2003. It is a service in which Alliance
citizens can have flags flown at their residence during the Memorial
Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, Labor Day and Veteran's Day holidays.
The Alliance Rotary Club is assisted by area Boy Scouts in
placing and removing flags during those holidays.
