Fly The Flag

Arnie Hirvela
was named Rotarian of the Year and a Paul Harris Fellow at the June 2004 installation dinner because of his efforts on this project. Hirvela, chairman of the Fly the Flag project, was visiting one of his children in McKinney, Texas, when he saw American flags flying throughout the community. He researched the source, a local service club, and over a year ago proposed the project to the Alliance Rotary. A fund-raiser for both Rotary and the local Boy Scouts, who assist by putting up and taking down the flags, the first year the project had 138 flags displayed. Last year, the count was up to over 1,350.

The flags are flown five times a year: Memorial Day, Flag Day, July 4, Labor Day and Veterans Day. This project was a runner up for the District 6650 Service Club Project in 2004.  To participate in this project, click here for a form. Please return it to: Alliance Rotary,
